Underrated Movies: Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
Once again another English period drama graced the movie theaters back in 2008 with this 1940s era film. This movie will keep you in a state of anticipation, hope and will keep a smile on your face throughout. As you might assume, the whole film takes place in one day when Miss Pettigrew is unjustly let go from her job and finds herself helping a struggling, social climbing actress, Delysia Lafosse get out of the sticky messes she has put herself in. However, in this final governess job which involves not taking care of a child, but of an adult with childlike behavior, she ends up proving to others and most importantly, to herself, that she is more than what she may seem. Miss Pettigrew is just what Delysia needs to turn her life around and Delysia is just what Miss Pettigrew needs to see her for the beautiful person she truly is. With wonderful performances by Frances McDormand and Amy Adams in the lead roles, you will also be delighted to see Ciaran Hinds in all his dapper charm and the amazing Shirley Henderson as a snide, bitter divorcee. You will also be pleasantly surprise by the adorable Lee Pace who can be seen in the independent film, The Fall and coming soon in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. This is just a few of the great performances you can see in this comedic, heartwarming film. A story of great friendships, love, and believing that who you are is that best way to be, this movie will warm your heart as you spend the day with Miss Pettigrew.
